Puss in Boots; the Last Wish

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish delivers a classic story of an already well recognized character with just the right amount of new flare. The movie offers an enjoyable viewing experience for both older and younger audiences, providing more mature themes with a simultaneously fun and lighthearted adventure.

Puss becomes an intensely relatable character for many viewers with his developing views on the value of life and how to live in spite of the eventual closure of it, an internal struggle that everyone must face during their own lives. In addition, the combined development of multiple “villains” offers a much more complex and three dimensional take on the classic Hero’s Journey, with relationships between characters often blurring the line between hero and villain. Recurring characters from the fairy tale universe like Big Jack Horner and Goldilocks, with her family of the three bears, offer a fun and charming callback to the franchise the movie originally came from as the cherry on top.

The combination of a classic, fun, swashbuckling tale with deeper themes and character arcs creates a movie that is well worth a watch.
