Mark your calendars for December 10th and attend the winter semiformal in the YHS gym from 7-10 pm! Open to all YHS students! You need a ticket to get in and these can be bought either online via this link or during both lunches throughout November. Tickets are $20 now but will be $25 at the door. It’s important to remember that the money from the tickets benefits the sophomore class which will help us raise money for future events. The event is chaperoned by Mr. Quigley and Ms. Adams and will have snacks and drinks available for purchase. The dress code for the event is semi-formal with a theme of winter wonderland. Here are some guides to what this means as some tips to make the most of the dance!
How to dress in semi-formal attire:
For people who want to wear a dress, consider a shorter one as opposed to a gown that you might wear to prom. Also, it’s encouraged to stay on theme so try to choose one that’s blue, silver, white, or gold!
Shoes could be flats, heels, or sandals. Not something you’d wear to school casually, but not something super fancy. It’s important to be comfortable too because you’ll want to be able to walk around with friends as well as dance!
Jewelry can add to your look but it doesn’t mean you should wear the nicest jewelry you have. A bag is optional but it would be helpful to have somewhere to put your things.
Do your own hair! A semi-formal isn’t like prom where many people get their hair done by someone else. If you have long hair you could do an updo, wear it down, or do anything you want!
Other options for dress include suits with a dress shirt, dress pants, and a blazer or vest. So not jeans or sweatpants but not a tuxedo either.
For shoes, a good idea would be to go with loafers or lace-up shoes like sneakers. These should be nice but not the best shoes you have, and it’s also important that they fit and allow you to move.
Adding a belt, watch, or tie can add to more masculine looks at the dance, and remember that if you’re debating whether or not to wear a tie you should wear one. You can always take it off later.
Tips for having a good time:
Go with your friends! You can bring anyone from YHS or any other school. However, if you’re bringing someone from a different school here’s a form you need to fill out! Remember to complete this no later than 3:30 pm on the Thursday before the dance (12/8).
Meet with who you're going with before the dance. The time of the dance matches perfectly with this idea. Consider grabbing dinner out as a group with your friends and just snacking during the dance. You don’t want to be hungry, so why not have the fun last longer by meeting for dinner before the dance?
Get ready with other people and hype each other up! Make people feel confident about their look at the dance. Try calling your friends as a group and, if you’re wearing makeup, do that together and ask for advice on how to do something or what could make it better!
Take lots of pictures! This will be a fun event that you’ll hopefully want to remember! Bring a camera or just use your phone to document the night!
Don’t feel pressured to do anything you don’t want to do. Nobody has to dance! Feel free to take the time to hang out with your friends and enjoy the snacks and drinks! As a bonus, try to get to know someone better! A dance is a great way to learn more about someone!
