A Day in Cape

The ninth graders started their year strong with the iconic Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth field trip. Over the course of the school day, they studied rocks, explored the location, and created some fun poetry along the coast. As some of the ninth graders noticed, a giant cruise ship passed by. This was a very exciting thing to see on the coast because of how much bigger it looked in person! One of the main reasons this field trip is so great is the advisory bonding that is included. Advisory groups got the chance to stay with each other for the whole day and be social. When talking with a variety of freshmen, I was able to get a broad sense of the field trip. Personally, being a freshman, I greatly enjoyed being away from school with the rest of the freshmen class and studying some of the concepts we were learning in class outside of the classroom. It was definitely an enjoyable bonding experience as well.

First, I spoke with freshman Ella Cameron. When asked about her opinion of the field trip she responded, “The field trip was very interesting and there was a lot of variety in the activities we explored. When lunchtime came we were able to choose a different type of food than what would have been offered to us at school. We were also able to hang out with friends during the nice weather.”

Next, I spoke to another freshman, May Ruthman.

I asked her, “What were your views of the food May?”

“The food was delightful!” Ruthman answered.

Next, I had a chance to talk to Alden Wentworth. Alden believed that the trip was a nice break from sitting in a chair all day. He also loved the break from our traditional learning.

After, I got the chance to talk to Abby Heselton, “How would you describe the bonding experiences on this field trip?”

She responded, “I feel like I got to get to know some of the other students in my advisor group. We definitely made more connections than we would have been able to make in ten minutes a day at school.”

Next, Lily Tyau told me about the best part of her experience.

“The best part of the field trip for me was lunch because I got to talk to and hang out with my friends.” She told me.

Finally to finish off our interviews we got a chance to talk to Henry Weiss. Henry believed it was a fun day, however, he was still disappointed that we weren't able to check out the food truck.

Overall this was a super fun experience for the freshmen. An experience I was very happy to take part in!
