The Yarmouth Cross Country has started the year strong with a stellar pre-season and Cross Country Camp! This three-day and two-night running camp is always during the beginning of XC’s pre-season. The place where we stay is called Camp Mechuwana! We are so fortunate to have connections with the owners so we can keep coming back to have this amazing location. This camp is for way more than just running. There are many skills you learn at this camp. Many of us learned how to properly fold a paper bag down, which has been a struggle in years past. Everyone who goes to the camp has a meal to cook, and a meal to clean up after. The first two days consist of a normal run, and then a workout in the afternoon. On the last day, we usually go for a nice base+. The camp is on a pond which is so amazing, and there’s lots of swimming done after runs! This year was the first year agua jogging was introduced. Mr. Madeira decided to take a group of people feeling pain down to the pond at 7:30 to go agua jogging! Agua jogging is an activity like running but in water so that less impact is put on your body. It helps with injuries because it is still working on cardio and strength just not having all the impact on that injured spot. It was extremely cold! There was also a lot of downtime that was spent napping, playing games, or just chilling. Since we are there for two nights we have some fun activities that we tend to do yearly. The first night we are there, we do a campfire with smores, and that’s when we give captain speeches. The second evening is an ice cream social night! Both are extremely delicious. This year's Cross Country Camp was an absolute blast! I can confidently say the Cross Country team has the strongest bond out of all sports teams here at Yarmouth. Join Cross Country, it will be the best decision of your life!
