Cross Country had a good season this year! Stuart Baybutt had the fastest boys' time of the year with a 17:44 at the Southern Maine Classic. Madeline Jones had the fastest girls' time for this season with a 20:00 at the Festival of Champions. WMCs were canceled this year due to a crazy wind/rain storm that ended up causing the power to go out in our school. Lake Region High School hosted a JV WMC meet the next week. Not as many schools showed up, but it was still a really good race, with four boys and five girls finishing in the top ten of their respective meets, showing the incredible depth of the team!

That weekend the top seven raced at Southern Maine Regionals at Twin Brooks in Cumberland.
The boy's team, unfortunately, missed qualifying to states by only five points, however, they ran impressively for one of the hardest courses in the state with Cam Pernal leading Yarmouth with a 26th place finish in 18:22, followed by Stuart Baybutt in 30th, Joshua Leinwand in 41st, Sami Rizkallah in 49th, Aksel Yeo in 50th, Issac Pendleton in 56th, and Evan Hankins in 63rd. We had two individual boys make it into state, and that was Cam Pernel and Stuart Baybutt, who ran wonderfully the next weekend, with Cam placing 26th and Stuart placing 42nd.
The Girl's team finished 7th and secured the last spot to states where they placed 9th. At states, also taking place at Twin Brooks, the girls team finished their season with more pack running with Norah Mills in 52nd in 23:34, Katie Thornton in 53rd, Lauren Keaney in 54th and Joesphine Nicholas in 55th, followed by Maya Faulstich in 63rd, Madeline Jones in 65th and Fiona Bergen in 67th. Additionally, Cam Pernal and Madeline Jones both made the WMC All-Conference teams! All in all, it was a great season for the cross-country team, and it's now time to get excited for next year!
Author’s Note - After being on the team this year, I can attest that cross country is a supportive, positive, wonderful sport! It’s a great way to create long-lasting friendships with team members and really find support in sport that can be both an individual and a team sport! I would highly suggest joining next year!
