Spirit Week 2023 was a great success! Our first normal Spirit Week since 2020, the whole school came together for some fun and friendly competition. Read a senior class perspective here and flip to page 4 to hear from the freshman, sophomores, and juniors. Many thanks to our amazing photographers who brought this section to life and the awesome writers!
Senior Class
By Issac Pendleton
What a Spirit Week it was YHS! Although it might not have been the result the senior class was looking for (congratulations again to the junior class for becoming the 3rd class to win Spirit Week as juniors!!), we felt as though it was a great success! The senior class and Class Council had a unique opportunity this year as we were the only grade at YHS that had experienced a true Spirit Week due to COVID. This year’s Spirit Week Included bringing back things like daily best dressed in the Cafe, the slew of after-school events (without restrictions), Thursday night Cafe decorating, and the Friday assembly! Friday allowed everyone to participate in classic Spirit Week events like Grapefruit Pass, Tug of War, and Limbo, as well as the addition of new events like the 3-point contest! As a member of the Class Council, I can say we had two main goals for the week: first was to bring back elements of Spirit Week that had been absent due to COVID. Secondly, most importantly, we wanted everyone to have a fun week! We hope you all agree that both of these goals were archived and you had a great week that allowed you to come together with your class. Despite this being our last Spirit Week we do not doubt that it will only continue to get better in the years to come!
The Juniors
By Norah Mills
After coming in last two years in a row, the class of 2024 turned it around during this year's Spirit Week thanks to numerous stand-out performances. Our theme was Men In Black and we followed it well, turning our section of the café into Men In Black headquarters complete with a UFO and a car. Starting the assembly on Friday with a lead of several points, the juniors cemented our victory with impressive wins in several events. Our dance dazzled and crushed the competition, our limbo-ers were limber and our mystery engineering representatives were able to build a moving mouse trap car. Practice paid off for our junior representatives in the Grapefruit Pass as they dusted the competition, completing the pass in mere 12 seconds. After some talented junior musicians captivated the crowd with a rousing rendition of Low Rider, the class of 2024 rushed to the center of the gym to celebrate our victory. Many thanks to the Senior Class Council for a wonderful Spirit Week and watch out underclassmen - we’ll be back next year!
The Sophmores

The sophomore class of 2025 had more spirit than ever before with a theme of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We placed first in several categories like most dressed for Clipper pride and anything but a backpack day, as well as winning first place for cafeteria decoration! The sophomore cafeteria section was modeled after a sewer with 90s influence and an old tv playing Mr. Quigley’s VCR of the animated TMNT show. There were glowsticks in a bowl that we brought to the assembly, adding to the sea of green. An amazing talent performance of Paranoid by Black Sabbath was such a fun performance and had the whole crowd on their feet. Third place is a great job by the class of 2025, and Friday was a great end to a historic Spirit Week!
The Freshmen

Freshman had a good first year of Spirit Week, we did end up getting last place, but many participated and it was lots of fun. The freshman color was pink, and our theme was Barbie. Our cafe section was Barbie based, and the goal was to make it look like Barbie's dream house. There were also Barbie boxes with Barbies sitting on the top. For the freshman, they handed out pink crowns for the assembly on Friday! All the performances the freshman did were awesome, especially the Piano Man performance, and the freshman dance! Can’t wait to knock it out of the park next year!
