Just last week the advanced art classes took on the big apple for the traditional New York City field trip. Staying in Manhattan, we traveled around the city going from unassuming galleries to vast museums, eating New York bagels and cannolis, and experiencing an unforgettable city.
After a six-hour bus ride, we arrived in the city. The first day was packed with visits to Chelsea Market and Chelsea galleries as well as a beautiful sunset walk on the High Line. I believe I can speak for most on the trip when I say it was cold, but it was worth facing the winds for the views. We also ventured into the bustling Times Square and ate at a delicious noodle restaurant. After an action-packed and exciting first day, we went back to the hotel to rest for another thrilling day.
With an early start, we headed down the street to treat ourselves with an amazing New York breakfast fitted with bagels, coffee, pastries, and tea from a selection of great bakeries. After filling up, we went to our first museum of the trip: the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD). It was a great start to our museum journey with a more secluded and intimate feel. There was a really interesting exhibit on jewelry which was great to see. We had an assignment to draw at least two things in the museum which was a really fun way to appreciate the art we were seeing. From the MAD we walked through Central Park to get to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It definitely feels like one of the world’s largest museums, having rooms that almost feel like a maze.Nonetheless, it was a gorgeous place filled to the brim with mesmerizing pieces. It was a shame to leave as we all wanted to spend days inside. It is completely impossible to take in the whole place in a matter of mere hours. To round out the day we ate at a delicious Italian restaurant and finished the night with an Italian bakery adding more tasty food to the list.

When the last day of the trip came, no one wanted to say farewell to the city. To end our journey, we took a walk to the Hall des Lumières, an immersive art experience featuring Gustav Klimt’s work. It was in an amazingly ornate building with beautiful architecture that was emphasized by the immersive experience. Classical music partnered with projections of Klimt’s work on the walls, floor, and ceilings made for an amazing experience. We left the Klimt exhibit with relaxed and refreshed minds, ready to go home. I had such a great time on the trip and if you ever get an opportunity to do something like it, I would recommend it a thousand times over. It was such a unique and fun experience to tackle such a large city with familiar faces and I will really never forget it.
