On Saturday, November 5th, Yarmouth Girls Soccer went up against Hermon High School in the 2022 State Championship game. The game had several ups and downs. Early in the first half, Hermon scored two goals, leaving Yarmouth down 2-0. Ava Feeley then scored her first goal of the game with only a few minutes left in the first half. Unfortunately, Goalie Reagan Sullivan had a severe head injury in the first half and was taken to the hospital at half-time. These stressful situations brought Yarmouth to life. Backup goalie Eden Young jumped in and had a great game, blocking every shot, and Ava Feeley scored her second goal, tying the score with Hermon. The game went into double overtime, and it ended with Feeley tipping in a corner kick from Gilroy, scoring the final, winning goal of the game. This is YGS’s 1st State title since 2017, and Captains Ava Feeley and Macy Gilroy said, “The camaraderie around this team is unmatched and what carried us through to win states.” They also commented that “the win feels truly incredible… It's a special group and for the seniors, it was a perfect way to go out.” They credited the entire team for their success, saying that everyone “gave it their all this year, supporting, uplifting, and inspiring each other along the way.” They say this win feels especially deserving because of it. Congratulations again to YGS and good luck next season!!
